Do I need my own gear to start?

We will help you select a mask, fins, booties and snorkle.  I’ll help you select the right equipment.

Is SCUBA safe?

Yes—when properly trained. Courses follow SDI safety standards, and all skills are taught step-by-step in a controlled environment.


Where do you teach?

Pool sessions take place locally around Richmond/Chesterfield.
Open-water checkouts are often held at Lake Phoenix in Rawlings, VA.


How long does the Open Water course take?

Most students complete it over:

Online academics at your own pace

1–2 pool sessions

A weekend of open-water dives

Can kids learn to dive?

Yes—students as young as 10 years old can earn a Junior Open Water certification.


Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

You only need basic comfort in the water. There’s a simple swim test and a float requirement.


What should I bring to class?

A swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water, snacks, and enthusiasm.
