Before Your First Pool Session
✔ Complete all SDI eLearning academics
✔ Complete all required waivers and medical forms
✔ Confirm your class schedule and arrival time
✔ Pick up any personal gear purchased from the dive shop
✔ Watch any assigned training videos
What to Bring to Pool Training
✔ Swimsuit (wear it under your clothes)
✔ Towel
✔ Water / hydration
✔ Light snack
✔ Mask, snorkel, fins, and boots (if purchased)
✔ Positive attitude and readiness to learn
Optional:
✔ Defog for mask
✔ Flip-flops or sandals for pool deck
Before Open Water Weekend
✔ Complete all confined water skills
✔ Finish eLearning knowledge reviews and exams
✔ Confirm your open water dive schedule
✔ Hydrate well the day before diving
✔ Get a good night’s sleep
What to Bring to Open Water Dives
✔ Swimsuit
✔ Towel
✔ Wetsuit (5mm recommended for quarry diving)
✔ Logbook
✔ Sunscreen
✔ Snacks and lunch
✔ Drinking water
✔ Certification paperwork if provided
Gear Typically Provided / Rented
✔ BCD
✔ Regulator
✔ Dive computer
✔ Tanks and weights
✔ Exposure protection (if rented)
Gear can be rented if you’re not ready to buy — and I’ll help you choose the right setup for your needs.
Dive Site Information
Open water training dives are typically conducted at Lake Phoenix.
Plan to arrive early so equipment can be assembled and the dive briefing can begin on time.
